Gymkarakteren – hva er det som teller?
Det har vært en del debatt om hva som vurderes når elevene skal ha karakter i kroppsøving. Enkelte stemmer har hevdet at testing dominerer. Dette tar blant annet Gunn Engelsrud opp i Aftenposten og sier at kompetansemålene i faget er ikke formulert på en måte som angir at eleven skal vise styrke, løpe fort eller hoppe høyt. Styringsdokumentene gir mål for kunnskaper, ferdigheter og holdninger som eleven skal vurderes etter. I tillegg skal innsats vurderes særskilt i kroppsøving.
Vi har spurt elevene om hva de opplever å bli vurdert etter. 6 av 10 elever svarer at innsats/holdning er den enkeltfaktoren som har størst betydning når får karakter. På plassene bak følger henholdsvis ferdigheter (4 av 10), fysiske tester (3 av 10) og kunnskap (2 av 10). Flere jenter enn gutter sier at de vurderes etter ferdigheter. Flere elever på 8.trinn enn på 10.trinn som opplever at innsats/holdning legges til grunn ved karaktersetting. Betyr dette at jo mer erfaring elevene har på å bli vurdert, jo mindre opplever de at innsats/holdning blir vektlagt i vurderingen?
Undersøkelsen vår viser både likheter og ulikheter mellom hva elevene opplever det legges vekt på i vurderingen og hva lærerne rapporterer at de gjør. Det er enighet om at innstas/holdning legges mye til grunn i vurderingsarbeidet. Men når det gjelder fysiske tester svarer elever og lærere svært ulikt. Som vist over, opplever 3 av 10 elever at slike tester blir vektlagt, mens nesten ingen lærere sier de bruker fysiske tester når de vurderer.
