I disse dager er det mulig for alle som har en mening om hva kroppsøvingsfaget skal være i fremtiden å komme med innspill. Siste innspillsrunde til kjerneelementene (altså hva som skal være det viktigste i faget) er åpen til 17.april. Målet med fagfornyelsen er ifølge Utdanningsdirektoratet at ‘innholdet i faget skal bli mer relevant og legge godt til rette for dybdelæring for elevene’.
I dette innlegget ønsker vi å diskutere problemstillinger som har dukket opp i kjølvannet av arbeidet med fagfornyelsen. Blant annet har Erlend Ellefsen Vinje ved Høgskolen i Sørøst-Norge uttrykt bekymring for at faget skal gjennomgå for store endringer. Dette begrunner han med at faget tross alt treffer mange slik det praktiseres i dag, og viser til vår nasjonale studie hvor 88,6% av elevene oppgir at de liker faget veldig godt eller godt.
Faggruppa som har jobbet fram utkastet til kjerneelementene foreslår ‘et mindre idrettsrettet fag’, blant annet med bakgrunn i at andre elevgrupper enn de idrettsaktive ‘ikke alltid trives like godt’, og at ‘det i dag er rom i læreplanen for å vekte idrettsaktiviteter tungt’. Et av hovedbudskapene i Vinjes innlegg er at ballspill og idrettsaktiviteter ikke må fjernes da mange elever liker dette. Dette synes vi er veldig interessant.
Det er åpenbart at det er viktig at elevene liker kroppsøvingsfaget for å kunne stimulere til livslang bevegelsesglede. Likevel mener vi at det er riktig å stille spørsmål om faget kun skal formes og legitimeres ut i fra trivsel i faget? Hvor er for eksempel fokuset på kompetansen elevene skal tilegne seg, altså hva elevene skal lære? Vil det å trives automatisk føre til at elevene lærer, eller fører et ensidig fokus på trivsel til at fokuset på læring blir borte? Allerede på 1970-tallet ble det hevdet at ‘keeping students busy, happy and good’ var det eneste kriteriet på hva som kjennetegnet god kroppsøvingsundervisning. Hvordan ville denne påstanden stilt seg i andre læringsfag? Er det for eksempel naturlig at målet med matematikk skal være at alle liker faget eller har det gøy i matematikktimene?
Et annet spørsmål vi er nysgjerrige på, er hva mener elevene med at de ‘liker kroppsøvingsfaget? Er det at de får drive med aktiviteter de mestrer fra før? Er det fordi de blir utfordret på nye ting? Er det fordi de synes de har det gøy? Eller er det fordi elevene gjennom å lære opplever mestring og utvikler seg? Vi har ikke alle svarene, men vi mener at dette er viktige spørsmål som må diskuteres.
I vår jobb som lærerutdannere er vi stadig i kontakt med kroppsøvingslærere og flere gir uttrykk for at også ballspill er noe alle elever kan like dersom tilrettelagt for det. For eksempel sier lærere på videregående skole at når de ‘idrettsflinke’ elevene får andre tilbud (for eksempel toppidrettsgymnas), uttrykker også de elevene som til vanlig ikke liker ballspill og konkurranser glede ved disse aktivitetene.
Dette forteller oss at det ikke er selve aktiviteten som nødvendigvis er avgjørende for elevenes trivsel i faget. Kanskje gjør fravær av ‘idrettsflinke’ at fokuset dreies vekk fra å vinne og mot å delta og mestre? Eller kan det være at læreren endrer fokus i sin undervisning når de ‘idrettsflinke’ ikke er til stede? Dersom målet med timen er å fremvise ferdigheter, vil sannsynligvis de idrettsaktive være de som lykkes best, og dermed trives mest, da det er de som mestrer ballspillene. Derimot om målet med timen er knyttet mot ‘deltagelse og samspill’ (kjerneelement 2) vil også de som ikke er driver med ballspill på fritiden gis de samme mulighetene til å nå målet, noe som kan medføre til økt trivsel. Dermed er kanskje det som vektlegges, altså målet for timen, vel så viktig som aktiviteten?
Som så ofte før inneholder også dette innlegget flere spørsmål enn svar – av den enkle grunn at vi ikke sitter på fasitsvar. Vi ønsker likevel å bidra til en diskusjon rundt disse spørsmålene som vi mener er viktige i utformingen av fremtidens kroppsøving.
